What is SBDM and how can I be involved?

The Site Based Decision Making Committee (SBDM) is an advisory committee made up of faculty, staff, parents and community schools. SBDM helps make decisions about many things happening at Mata including academic, social and community issues.

There are several ways to participate:

Attend meetings! All SBDM meetings are open to observers. SBDM meeting dates for 2016-17 are: Sept. 28, 2016; Nov. 30, 2016; Jan. 25, 2017; Feb. 22, 2017; and April 12, 2017. Anyone who is not already on the committee and wants to speak should contact the Mata front office 24 hours before the meeting to get on the agenda. We ask that you limit your comments to just a few minutes. All meetings are from 6:30-8 pm in the Mata library.

Serve on a sub-committee! Mata’s four sub- committees have “open enrollment” and we encourage interested parents to participate. Please contact the chairs of each sub-committee to find out when these meetings will take place.

  1. School Health (required) Chair, Sheri Fetter,

Broadly defined, “catchall” committee; we will flexibly choose focus areas that emerge from our community. Focus areas in 16-17 will include dyslexia & other reading interventions, and Spanish translations & other outreach & community building.

  1. Middle School (ad hoc) Chair, Jerod Miller,

Will collaborate with school & district leaders to ensure roll out of 6th, 7th & 8th grades at Mata.

  1. Dual Language (ad hoc) Chair, Tina Davila,

Staff & parents collaborate to support & improve dual language instruction at Mata; may include, Spanish language Montessori materials, aligning to TX standards, working with other exemplar sites.

  1. Instruction & Assessment (ad hoc) — Chair, Annie Wright,

Will focus primarily on Montessori implementation, applied to all students: includes the essential elements assessment, progress reporting & grading.

Serve on the main committee! Elections for new members will take place in April 2017. These members will be on SBDM for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years. Consider submitting your name or nominating other Mata parents or community members.
