For the past two years, Mata Montessori’s winter celebrations have involved activities designed to educate children about the variety of holidays observed by diverse cultures around the world. The events have helped students celebrate the many ways people come together to rejoice and feast with their community while honoring Dr. Montessori’s vision of inclusion and peace.
For the 2016-17 school year, instead of holding a winter celebration in the period leading up to DISD’s winter break, Mata will have a multi-cultural celebration in January, after students return from winter break. This change is due to the District’s ACP testing schedule, which will occur Dec. 19-22, 2016 districtwide. ACP testing at Mata will take place Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 19-21. On Thursday, Dec. 22, students may wear pajamas to school and will enjoy hot cocoa and treats. Early dismissal is planned for that day at 11:55 a.m., kicking off the start of winter break.
The PTA will post more information about all celebrations as those are planned.
